SUSCINO
Home of the Dukes of Brittany – XIII – X V centuries
In the Middle Ages the castle was the favourite home of the Dukes of Brittany and their court. South of the Rhuys Peninsula, close to the ocean, the castle was protected by surrounding marshes and sea water feeding its moats.
At the time, a forest provided an ideal position for hunting but has now disappeared. Today the castle embodies a powerful XV century fortress with six towers and two ramparts.
It is a compact castle circled by moats with a drawbridge for access. It has been entirely restaured and, after 30 years of work, the main building holds now a permanent exhibition on painted china tiles and on the castle history through seven centuries.
